Adhesive

This arrived today in the mail:

Weld-On 3. Clear, water-thin, very fast curing solvent cement.

Actually a bottle much larger than that along with a needle-tipped squeeze bottle applicator and a poly funnel to get the stuff into the squeeze bottle. Styrene sheets are supposed to be here today as well. I saw FedEx on my street when I was home for lunch, so I'm guessing that by the time I'm done typing this I will have a box of plastic on my porch.

Astromech.Net has been down for about 2 weeks now. I really want to look up who was offering resin R5 head details but that info is on... Astromech.Net. Maybe scour through the Yahoo Group site later.

A slight change of plans, I'm going to concentrate on the head first. I hope to have it completed before DroidCon. Chris said he'd drive it out there for me, which is awesome.

Taking The Plunge

As I stated before, I was buying the skins precut - well, more like prescored. They aren't cut all the way through (and that's fine by me). They are sitting in my basement in the box in which they arrived. I'd take a picture but it's very difficult to see what they are. The pics I took look like a blank piece of white paper! Here's a pic from the seller:
From the lovely Chani!
Now, this is great news and all, and of course a great step toward R5 completion, but it's nothing without the rest of the HIPS needed to construct the droid. As the title indicates - no, I didn't get a plunge router - I finally bit the bullet on shipping and ordered the following plastic. All of this was figured out by the awesome guys at the R2 Builders site - mainly Teecees (body) and King Jawa (R5 Head).

  • 6 sheets, 4x4' 0.125
  • 1 sheet, 4x4' 0.080
  • 4 sheets, 4x4' 0.040
  • 1 sheet, 4x4' 0.020
I don't know how long this will take to arrive but I have a couple of side projects (Scout Trooper costume needs a couple of modifications, workspace needs to be made in the basement) I need to complete before I can start this work. I also need to buy the proper adhesive.
